PURPOSE:To develop an infrared ray transmitting glass having improved transmittance characteristics of infrared rays and improved stability to heat, by adding a specific amount of YF3 to a glass consisting of ZrF4 and BaF2 as principal components. CONSTITUTION:An infrared ray transmitting glass having improved infrared ray transmittance characteristics as a material, e.g. a window material or lens for apparatuses utilizing infrared rays, is prepared from a glass having the following composition: 57-69mol% ZrF4, 26-39mol% BaF2 and 2-7mol% YF3, the total amount thereof being 95-100mol%. The resultant glass is a colorless and transparent glass with a glass transition point of about 300 deg.C, capable of transmitting infrared rays of wavelengths up to about 8mum, and having flat transmittance characteristics. |
