The pipe cutting unit is esp. for cutting thick-walled metal pipe, cement lined e.g. cast iron pipe or ceramic pipe. It comprises a motor-driven cutting disc and a carrier provided with a pivot parallel to the disc and pipe axes to permit swivelling the disc relative to the pipe. Rollers guide the carrier as it is moved around the periphery of the pipe. A linked clamp chain assembly comprises fixings to fit the unit around the pipe and has further guide rollers which are in contact with the pipe periphery when so fitted.
