The sawing machine comprises a frame with a work support table and an endless cable (3) which runs around rollers and is provided with hard-metal or diamond cutting elements (17) in the form of discs spaced along the length of the cable. Each disc has a central bore through which the cable passes and is rigidly secured to that cable. Spacer bushes (18) may be arranged between the discs and may be clamped on to the cable e.g. by applying pliers to a circumferential groove (19) in each bush, or by welding or soldering.
