A device for determining friction in a rotary body, for instance a turbine, contains: acoustic-signal sensors which are provided at several bearings which carry a rotary body via a film of lubricating oil, acoustic-signal sensors which sense acoustic signals through the rotary body and the bearing oil film, which acoustic signals are produced on account of a friction phenomenon, caused by contact between the rotary body and a stator at one or more points of the rotor, a decision circuit for establishing the appearance of a friction phenomenon on the basis of the comparison between the acoustic signals determined and a reference value, and a friction-locating circuit for calculating the difference in the transmission time between the determined acoustic signals from the acoustic-signal sensors and for calculating the point of generation of the friction phenomenon on the basis of this time difference.
