A vertically adjustable seat for motor vehicles has a shaft part and a lever which is connected by a spindle to the rear end of the seat and with its other end cooperates via a screw connection with the shaft part. A screw bushing which can be moved forwards and rearwards is connected by the spindle to the other end of the lever. The adjustment takes place by operating a handle which is attached to the front end of the shaft part. As a result, a seat-adjusting device is produced, the space requirement of which is as small as possible while, at the same time, a reliable, long service life is ensured.
