Moulded coke for the removal of oxides of sulphur and nitrogen from waste gases is prepd. by (i) gripping hard coat with 10-45% volatiles to a grain size of 90% (max.) under 40 micron; (ii) oxidising the prod. in a heated, pref. 4-6 stage, fluidised bed; (iii) mixing the prod. with water and bitumen, tar or pitch and pressed into forms of 4-9 mm dia.; and (iv) heating the moulded coke to 650-950 deg.C. Conditions in (i) and (ii) are chosen according to the volatiles content of the coal. Used esp. in moving beds of coke for the treatment of furnace flue gas. Coke of standardised properties, including high absorption capacity, is produced from a wide range of coals.
|
