2,3-Dichloro-7-hydroxy-1H-inden-1-one derivatives of the formula I <IMAGE> (I) wherein R1 is hydrogen or one of the groups <IMAGE> R2 and R3 independently of one another are each hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, C1-C4-alkyl, trifluoromethyl or nitro, R4 is hydrogen, C1-C6-alkyl or C2-C4-alkenyl, each of which is unsubstituted or substituted by halogen, or R4 is phenyl which is unsubstituted or is substituted by C1-C4-alkyl, C1-C4-alkoxy, halogen, trifluoromethyl, cyano or nitro, or it is a C3-C6-cycloalkyl group, and R5 is C1-C6-alkyl, C3-C6-cycloalkyl or C2-C4-alkenyl. These compounds exhibit a microbicidal action against in particular phytopathogenic fungi and bacteria.
