A fuel cell electrode comprises a liquidrepellant, gas-permeable layer, a porous electrically-conductive liquid wettable layer and an intermediate layer of carbon powder or plastics bonded carbon. The carbon layer may contain a metal catalyst. The gas-permeable layer may be of carbon or of nickel wet-proofed with P.T.F.E. and the wettable layer may be a metal screen or a nickel layer.
