Dithiophosphate lubricant additives of the formula I <IMAGE> wherein R1 and R2, each independently of the other, represents C3-C12alkyl which can be interrupted by 1 to 2 oxygen atoms, C6-C10aryl or (C1-C12alkyl)-aryl, or R1 and R2 together represent C2-C12alkylene which can be interrupted by 1 or 2 oxygen atoms, and represents -OH, -NR3R4, -OH.NR3R4R5, -NHCH2COOH, -NHCH2COOR1, -NH(CH2COOH)2, -N(CH2COOR1)2, -N(CH2COOH)2.NR3R4R5, -N(CH2COOH.NR3R4R5)2, -NHCH2OH or -N(CH2CH2OH)2, wherein R3, R4 and R5, each independently of the other, represents hydrogen or C1-C18alkyl, or R3 and R4 together represent C3-C12alkylene which can be interrupted by an oxygen, sulphur or nitrogen atom.
