An article opening is closable by a slide fastener (16) having coupling element trans (22, 24) along the edges of a pair of tapes (18, 20) which have their outer edges secured to the sides of the opening (14). There are perforations (40) in the region of the tapes between article edge & coupling elements to form a vent when the opening is closed. The dia. of perforations is pref. 0.254 - 2.032 mm & the tapes are of polymeric film & folded longitudinally with the trains secured to the folded edges & the perforations extending through both film layers. Each perforation is surrounded by a reinforcing bead or deformed part of the tape. There may be a flap overlaying the opening to allow expulsion of air.
