The automatic gain control is for a circuit with a control voltage generator keyed by a signal and controlled by the level of a video signal synchronisation component. It generates a gain control signal. The system has a source of different widths synchronisation pulses, and a source of recurrent pulses normally in a constant phase relation to the synchronisation pulses. The system has a controlled current path (100) made conducting by the synchronisation and recurrent pulses when they coincide. A circuit (70) generates a keying signal for the control voltage generator (20) when the current path is conducting.
