PREPARATION OF RAW MATERIAL PELLET FOR PRODUCTION OF REDUCED IRON

PURPOSE:To provide pellets of higher strnegth and contrive to utilize a distillation residue of a crude oil by a method wherein an iron ore powder is mixed with specified amounts of a carbon material and the distillation residue of a crude oil, the resulting mixture is kneaded at a temperature of higher than the softening point of the distillation residue and is pelletized. CONSTITUTION:An iron ore powder with at least 60wt% thereof being -325 mesh is mixed with 5-20wt% of a carbon material as a reducing agent and 2- 10wt% of the distillation residue of crude oil as a binder. The mixture thus obtained is kneaded by applying compressive forces while keeping the mixture at a temperature which is higher than the softening point of the binder by 100- 150 deg.C. The material thus kneaded is pelletized by a pelletizer such as, for example, a pan-type pelletizer.
