An electric storage battery comprising a stack of plates (20, 24) alternating in polarity, separated by a one-piece separator (10) formed from a sheet of flexible electrically insulating material folded about a fold (12), then folding back and forth about equispaced folds (14, 16) to form closed-bottomed and sided pockets (18) and compartments (22) between each of the pockets (18). Into each pocket is inserted a plate (20) one polarity, plates (24) of the opposite polarity being inserted one in each of the compartments (22). The stack of separated plates is then inserted in a cell compartment in a battery casing, and a connecting rod secured to the lugs of plates (20) of one polarity and another rod secured to lugs of the other plates (24). Ribs (26), for predetermining the spacing between plates, may be provided on the surface(s) of the separator (10). A facing of non-woven polyester or glass (not shown) may be provided as a lining for the separator. <IMAGE> |
