Section isolator for railway overhead conductor - has U=shaped -isolators with wearing face reinforced with perpendicular fabric

A section isolator for overhead conductors of electric railways consists of two insulating slide shoes fixed to the conductors by terminals and clamps; the slide shoes are of fibre-reinforced plastics composed of parallel layered filament fabric oriented perpendicularly to the slide face, the arcing horns being of U-shape. One arm of the U forms the slide shoe, while the other arm leads to an adjustment bar connected to the clamp; the web connecting these two arms forms the approximately V-shaped arcing component. The filament fabrics are pref. pressed together with cycloaliphatic epoxy resin. The isolator can be mounted on a continuous conductor, and the conductor then cut by a tool penetrating into a notch on the underside. This eliminates the need for stressing two separate conductors.
