A suction filter for sepg. slurries into compact sludge and clear filtrate has a fixed dome mounted on a base frame contg. a central pivot. About this pivot tilts the filter floor which in its horizontal position forms a sealed pressure vessel and carries the cloth for filtering slurry fed into the top of the dome to a controlled level. Compressed air fed into the dome above the slurry forces filtrate out through a pipe descending below the floor. After filtration, the air supply is interrupted and the floor is mechanically tilted into a generally upright position. A pulsating air supply is now delivered below the cloth, causing the filter cake to detach and fall. The floor can then be rotated for a fresh cycle. The press is compact, with no pivoting parts projecting from the contour, and is easily operated. The basic unit is small and can be combined in a battery with others.
