A method of improving the growing environment of plants comprises positioning on each side of the plants a liquid-filled flexible container which absorbs solar energy during the day for subsequent radiation to the plants. A cloche for utilizing the method is disclosed which comprises four containers (10-13) and a bridging flexible canopy (15).
