Tunnel concrete tube membrane tubbing segments - have fibres in concrete forming felt hinges under asymmetrical rock pressure deformation

Interconnected concrete segments, joined to rock by backfilling of mortar or concrete, are assembled to form a ring, in tubbing support for tunnel tubes and underground galleries. The tubbing segments (1) are of membrane type, made from fibre concrete, deformable in some areas under the effect of asymmetrical rock pressure. The fibres form felt hinges (5) in the area of deformation. Membrane segments are pref. approx. 2 cm. thick, and can be two or three times as thick on their periphery. Fibres may be of steel, pref. 40-45 mm. long and up to 1 mm. thick.
