The roll lifter is for the transfer of an empty drum or a winding roll from one position to another axis parallel to the first at a winding or unwinding station. One position is determined by a winding or unwinding bearing which can be adjustable and the other position by a carriage or frame movable in an axial direction of the winding roll. The bearing (7) is formed on a first lever (5). It has a swivel bearing relative to the pair of levers (1) connected by a coupling to a second lever (12) swivelled by a drive (13) in such a way that the first lever can be swivelled into a levering out position permitting the swivelling of the pair of levers past the drum pin (8).
