Electrolytic winning of lead from ash - which is mixed with aq. caustic soda soln. and electrolysed to obtain lead and lead di:oxide

Ash contg.Pb cpds. is added to an aq. soln. of caustic soda; and the mixt. obtd. is electrolysed for the winning of Pb. The pref. aq. soln. contains by wt. 5-20% NaOH; and the mixt. obtd. is pref. held between room temp. and 80 deg.C during electrolysis, which pref. uses a current density below 200mA/sq.cm. The process is used in the winning of Pb from ash arising during the melting of Pb scrap or raw materials, or the plates of scrap accumulators, in various types of furnaces. A high yield of Pb is obtd. without causing environmental pollution.
