PURPOSE:To achieve a high-output and high-density recording medium with high manufacturing yield, by forming a hard ferromagnetic substance layer including Fe, Co and V on or near an alloy thin plate surface so that the lower side of the layer is distinguished magnetically. CONSTITUTION:The medium is a magnetic recording medium made of an alloy thin plate, and the ion concentration of the specified atoms out of atoms constituting this alloy thin plate changes in the thickness direction of the thin plate. As a result of the concentration change, a hard ferromagnetic substance layer including Fe, Co and v on or near the surface of the alloy thin plate and having 100Angstrom -1mum thickness of >=2,500e coercive force is formed with magnetic distinction from the lower part. The atom constitution ratio in the said hard ferromagnetic substance layer can suitably be determined taking into consideration the application of the medium and requirements out of so-called vicalloy system. This alloy thin plate is formed as it is or with another substrate for various magnetic recording media. |
