PURPOSE:To easily deal with optical signal information of plural sequences in parallel at the same time, by forming plural switches for executing the switching operation of an optical signal by applying an electric field, on the same substrate, collecting in the lump one and the other of their electrodes, respectively, and connecting them in common. CONSTITUTION:This switch is provided with an LiNbO3 single crystal substrate 1, optical waveguides 21, 22, 31, 32, 41 and 42 which have been formed by diffusing Ti, electrodes 51, 52, 61, 62, 71 and 72, common connecting lines 81, 82, and control signal input terminals In1, In2. In this switch, when a control signal S is applied to the input terminal In1, an electric field is generated between the electrodes 51, 52, between the electrodes 61, 62 and the electrodes 71, 72, too, the refractive index in the waveguide being in their vicinity is varied, and a state of an optical output is varied. For instance, in case when an optical input A, an optical input B and an optical input C are made incident to the waveguide 21, the waveguide 31 and the waveguide 41, its optical signal appears as A1, B1 and C1 in a state that the control signal S has been applied, and in state that the control signal S is not applied, the optical output appears as A2, B2 and C2. |
