Keratinaceous material (I) is continuously hydrolysed as follows: (a) (I) is continuously passed to a vessel and heated to is not >212 degrees F; (b) (I) is violently agitated at 150-350 rpm and heated until it has wilted to a flowable and pumpable consistency; (c) the flowable material is passed to a 2nd, pressure vessel and stirred and heated to 265-365 degrees F/25-150 psig until hydrolysis occurs; then (d) hydrolysed (I) is continuously pumped from the 2nd vessel and dried. Efficient, controllable, fully continuous process affords prods. of substantially improved nutritional value from a variety of (I) (feathers, hair, nails, etc.).
