In a rolling mill for production of strands or wires of steel by continuous roll trains, there is at least one loop storage arrangement 9 to form at least one loop for a billet being rolled, which is controlled and driven by rolls such as a pair of clamping rolls into a loop storage arrangement provided with a groove or several grooves in same and arranged at some suitable place in a roll train 5, 12 or between two roll trains. The billet is formed into a continuous loop with a single turn or loops with a plurality of turns in a single stage or into a plurality of stages, stacked one on the other, and can furthermore be cut and fed to a different loop storage arrangement situated at a set-up 9b at the side of the first one 9a. The billet thus formed into a loop or loops is used either for temporary storage of a billet during processing in order to adjust the rolling speed between each train of component roll trains or to give the billet a long path, necessary for cooling it to the desired temperature, which is required for low-temperature rolling in order to give the billet increased durability and toughness. <IMAGE> |
