PURPOSE:To realize a sharp transfer, by a method wherein an auxilialy electrode for preheating a ribbon is provided in the vicinity of a printing electrode. CONSTITUTION:A printing head 5 depresses a ribbon 4 against a medium to be printed 7 disposed on a platen 8. An auxilialy electrode 1 passes an auxilialy current to a return electrode 2 to an extent not enough to melt an ink of the ribbon 4. A printing electrode 6 is selectively and electrically conducted as necessary, whereby the printing head 5 prints characters etc.. Due to the conductive current the ink of the ribbon 4 is melted to be transferred to the medium 7. After the completion of a printing action for one line, the auxilialy current from the auxilialy electrode 1 is stopped, and the printing head 5 stops traveling and separates from the ribbon 4. While the printing head 5 presses the ribbon 4 against the medium 7, a pressure roller 3 presses the ribbon 4 against the return electrode 2. In this manner, the ribbon 4 is preheated by the auxilialy current from the auxilialy electrode 1 and kept at a fixed level of temperature, whereby the ink coated on the surface layer of the ribbon is made easy to melt and the transfer of the ink to the medium can be facilitated. |
