Lining for sports ball - composed of filaments with multidirectional pattern bonded to give nonwoven spherical sheet

Lining (I) for a sports or game ball comprises a number of yarns of nylon or similar material overlying one another and arranged in numerous different directions. These form a non-woven textile material and are glued together. The appts. for the prodn. of (I) comprises two basic components: a support and movement component for a spherical mould (1) on which the textile is formed and a drive section for producing the winding operations, both components being carried on a single support frame (2). Due to the unrestricted orientation of the non-woven fabric, loading conditions in all directions are resisted uniformly. A ball made using such a lining is extremely stable in form. The lining fabric produced in this manner is simply cut, then removed from the form and can be used for a lining for a sports ball.
