The compounds of formula III, which is drawn to denote the free base and the symbols of which are defined in Claim 1, are obtained by reduction of the corresponding alpha -halogenated compound; the latter can be obtained by halogenation of the analogous alpha -hydroxy compound. The compounds of formula III are useful first and foremost as medicaments to combat arterial hypertension (high blood pressure). <IMAGE>
