The boat comprises a hull (1) and a mast (2). Tracks (4) running athwart the hull (1) carry a sliding carriage (3). A boom (6) pivots at its forward end in two perpendicular directions on the carriage (3). A stay (5) connects the forward end of the boom (6) or carriage (3) to the top of the mast (2) and provides the means of securing the forward edge of the sail (9).
