Determination of path of ball in bowling alley - uses light barriers to compute direction of travel

The path of the bowling ball is determined with the aid of a light barrier perpendicular to the centre line of the bowling track with a further two light barriers set at the same angle to the centre line, either side of the central light barrier, so that all three beams intersect at a common point on the track centre line. With this mirror images arrangement, two successive sections of the tracks result, whose length extension continually changes transverse to the track, whereby the length extent of this section is equally long respectively on a line parallel to the centre axis. Thus, a measurement can be made of which of the light barriers is interrupted first. If the bowl runs parallel to the centre axis, the sequential interruption of the light barriers is used to produce a comparative value to indicate the path of the bowl by lamps. This applies to a bowl which runs along the left or right hand side of the central axis.
