The discus is for sporting and training purposes. It is constructed on the modular principle with a metal disc (1) and two half-shells (4a) forming the profiled portions, together with a holding and calibrating device at the centre. The moment of inertia is adjusted by movement of weights inside the discus. The metal disc can have tapped holes or other members for securing the weights, there being typically twelve such holes accommodating screwed studs securing the weights and arranged in a symmetrical pattern. Alternatively the weights can be mounted in a star pattern, their distance from the centre being mechanically and steplessly adjusted, typically by screw bolts passing through them.
|
