The vertically or inclinedly arranged spindles (6) of the two-for-one twisting machine are each provided with a protective cover (30). The protective cover (30) of half-round horizontal cross-section is placed on the spindle rail (2); its top side (29, 33) is approximately level with the storage disc and has passing through it the balloon-limiter pot (9) taking the form of a cylinder casing. The protective cover (30) is open towards the operating side; its diameter or its width is larger than the balloon-limiter diameter, but equal to or smaller than the spindle division. The top side of the protective cover (30), through which the balloon limiter (9) passes, can be formed from a cover plate (33) extending over the entire length of one side of the machine. <IMAGE>
