The invention relates to a hand-operated material testing apparatus, in particular a metal-sheet testing apparatus, for testing uncoated and coated thin metal sheets by pressing a spherical die into the metal-sheet specimen by means of a threaded spindle. A loaded force measuring system enables the specified clamping force to be set. The object of the invention is to design the test apparatus in such a way that the hydraulic force measuring system can be replaced as a unit, and this is made possible, according to the invention, as a consequence of an appropriate pressure pipe run and an appropriate arrangement of a pressure ring. The invention shown in figures can be applied to material testing apparatuses in which a specified force has to be set in testing thin metal sheets. <IMAGE>
