The toothbrush has a mechanical drive system, and the brush head may be detached from the handle and drive mechanism. The replaceable brush head includes a coupling or connection member, a shank and the brush bristles. The brush head may b cylindrical or round in shape. The motor in the handle and drive unit gives rotary motion. Its shaft may be directly connected to the brush drive or may be connected via a speed change gear. The motor housing may contain switches to regulate the rotational speed of the motor.
