Tertiary amines are prepared by reaction of an alcohol or aldehyde with a primary or secondary amine in the presence of a copper-nickel catalyst under atmospheric pressure or elevated pressure of up to 5 atmospheres at a temperature from 150 to 300 DEG C, the water formed in the reaction being removed.
