A high voltage cable includes three conductors (1, 2, 3) each comprising several individual helically wound metal cores, insulation layers (7, 8, 9) surrounding said conductors, screens (19, 20, 21) surrounding said insulating layers and said conductors, and together constituting an earth conductor, and a protective cover or jacket (25, 27) surrounding said screen and being made of plastics or rubber. Inside the jacket a filling substance (26) and several individual, additional earth conductors (22, 23, 24) are arranged, the latter being adapted to increase the overall sectional area of the earth conductor. In order to eliminate problems relating to providing the required earth connection, the jacket and the filling substance are made of a material which is electrically conductive in itself, e.g. carbon-containing polyvinylchloride or crosslinked polyethylene, or rendered conductive by the incorporation of evenly distributed particles of an electrically conductive material, e.g. metallic chips or swarfs, in order to provide electrically conductive connection between the earth conductor of the high voltage cable and the environment. |
