<p>A strip profile for fixing to the edges of a door or to the surfaces of a door frame to seal the clearance between the closed door and the frame if exposed to fire comprises a hollow tubular profile which will soften and stretch or flow when heated and which is filled with an intumescent material such as sodium silicate. The hollow sheathing is chosen to protect the core matl. from moisture or other chemical attack or from superficial mechanical damage and to allow the core to swell sufficiently to plug the clearance before the sheathing melts. Pref. the casing is of plasticized PVC and has ancillary webs with recesses to accept fasteners such as staples, springs, screws or rivets; alternatively the profile may be mounted by welding or with adhesives. The soft, fusible sheath ensures more consistent contact between the core and the frame/door faces than uses of a conventional ductile metal casing of e.g. aluminium.</p> |
