PURPOSE:To develop each layer of a multilayer color photographic material containing a color developing agent rapidly in a well-balanced state, by processing it with a specified alkali metal silicate type aqueous alkaline solution. CONSTITUTION:A photosensitive material containing a color developing agent or its precursor is imagewise exposed, and developed with an aqueous alkaline solution containing an alkali metal silicate and at least 5% potassium on the basis of all the alkali metal present in the alkaline solution in terms of gram atom. It is undesirable from the view point of environmental pollution to use a phosporic acid type as a buffer in high alkalinity, and sodium silicate is considered as its substitute, but speed of water diffusion into the gelatine layers is detarded by a large amount of it used, bringing contrast of each layer out of balance. Use of a large amount of potassium prevents this. |
