PURPOSE:To perform developing and removal of a residual toner with a single magnetic brush by grounding a nonmagnetic magnetic toner carrying body carrying a magnetic toner on the surface during developing or applying prescribed voltage thereto and at the time of cleaning, electrically insulating the carrying body from others. CONSTITUTION:During developing, a switch 17 between a nonmagnetic sleeve and a conductive substrate 9 is closed and a sleeve 13 is grounded. Latent images are formed on the photosensitive layer 10 of a photosensitive drum 8, and the electric charge of the reversed polarity as that of the latent images is induced in a magnetic brush 18, by which the latent images are developed. Grounding of the sleeve 13 during developing is an example of aplication of developing bias voltage. To clean the layer 10 having both the residual charge and the residual toner, the switch 17 is opened to insulate electrically the sleeve 13 from other parts, whereby the generation of the dielectric charge to the brush 18 is prevented and despite the presence of the residual charge, the redeveloping of this is prevented. |
