A method and apparatus are disclosed for preparing articles, such as mattresses and pillows, consisting of plural layers of a pliable material wherein air pockets are permanently formed between adjoining layers thereof. On a press platen (11) a movable moulding piece (12) having cup-shaped chambers (13) thereon is lowered by hydraulic pressure on the multilayered pliable material blank (20, 21), said cup-shaped chambers (13) being connected, when necessary, to a vacuum source (14, 15). HF welding electrodes (16) are located around the periphery of said cup-shaped chamber so as permanently to set the air pockets formed by suction in the multilayered pliable material (20, 21). <IMAGE> |
