PURPOSE:To keep the performance of an alkali storage battery at a high level by atomizing molten Zn mixed with Al and Hg or further mixed with an element for increasing hydrogen overvoltage and by using the resulting powder as an cathode active material. CONSTITUTION:Molten Zn is mixed with Al and Hg or further mixed with one or more among Pb, In, Cd, Te and Ga for increasing hydrogen overvoltage. The molten Zn is powdered by atomization or other method to obtain amalgamated Zn alloy powder of 48-150 mesh particle size.
