A coagulant for slag consists of perlite or pumice and a magnesia component, which can be magnesia itself or a precursor which forms magnesia in use, such as magnesite, dolomite or olivine. The slag coagulant desirably has a greater density than the slag, so that the coagulant spreads over the slag and then sinks through it, allowing coagulation to occur. The coagulant advantageously comprises, by weight, 60-75% of perlite and/or pumice and 25-40% of the magnesia component.
|
