<p>Curable compositions are provided herein which can be stored under anhydrous conditions, but which when exposed to atmospheric moisture cross-link to form elastomers. Such compositions consist essentially of diorganopolysiloxane having terminal condensable groups. The second is a silicon compound containing at least three hydrolyzable groups per molecule, in which the hydrolyzable groups are amino groups bonded to silicon via nitrogen and/or oxime groups bonded to silicon via oxygen. The third is at least one additional component which improves adhesion of the elastomers obtained from such compositions to substrates. This third additional component is an organosilicon compound containing at least one amino group which is bonded to silicon via carbon at least one siloxane-oxygen atom. Such compositions have the improved characteristic of complete deep section curing even in the absence of condensation catalysts. The elastomers adhere to most substrates e.g. glass, porcelain, ceramics, mortar aluminum, brass, stainless steel, galvanized iron, wood paper, polyvinyl chloride polyestors, polystyrene and polymethylmethacrylate in the absence of customary primers. Thus, they may be used for sealing joints, in vehicles or in buildings. They are also useful as adhesives or cementing compositions, for the manufacture of electrical insulators and for coating paper, metals, rocks or textiles.</p> |
