Storage facility for a multiplicity of spent nuclear reactor fuel assemblies formed of a receptacle with thick shielding walls containing storage racks for the fuel assemblies and a device for removing decay heat therefrom includes a natural-draft chimney located adjacent the receptacle, the device for removing decay heat being formed of heat pipes having a heatsurrendering end projecting into the chimney.
