PURPOSE:To ensure a proper copying process, by replacing the transfer paper size data with a prescribed data after the end of the copying process and based on the signal supplied from a paper feed unable state detecting means in case the supply of the transfer paper becomes impossible during the copying process. CONSTITUTION:An electrophotographic copier has the 1st copy mode in which an original is fixed and an optical system is shifted to carry out the copying and the 2nd copy mode in which the optical system is fixed and the original is shifted for copying along with the automatic switching secured between these two modes. When a paper feed unable state detecting means detects that the supply of the transfer paper becomes impossible during a series of copying processes, the transfer paper size data is replaced with another transfer paper size data with which the copying is possible in both the 1st and 2nd copy modes after the copying process is over and based on the detection signal supplied from the above-mentioned paper feed unable state detecting means.
