A dry skinning appts. for root vegetables comprises a rotable prod. vessel with a prod. inlet at one end and an outlet adjacent the other end. The vessel has a side wall with apertures for the passage of removed skin. Pref. a feed screw is mounted within the vessel which is rotatable in contra-direction to the vessel rotation. The appts. comprises a perforated vessel which is rotated by engagement with drive wheels. Treated vegetables are introduced from a hopper and are fed along the vessel by a feed screw mounted on a shaft. Removed peel exits through the vessel perforations while the skinned vegetables are discharged through an outlet. The appts. is for the dry skinning of root vegetables and fruit after a skin-loosening process by steam or caustic soda.
