The system for warning of tyre damage comprises a tyre (10), on or in which at least one element (25, 27) is attached which reacts to temperature and becomes released from the tyre at a predetermined temperature, and a detection and display device (30, 32, 44, 46) which outputs a display in response to the release of the element from the tyre. The element which reacts to temperature is preferably arranged in the shoulder area (12, 14) of the tyre in which the highest temperature at which the element becomes released is selected in such a way that it is above the maximum safe running temperature of the tyre and below a temperature at which the tyre fails; in this way an advance warning of increased temperature and possible failure of the tyre is ensured. The element is preferably seated in a cavity (24, 26) in the tyre and the release of the element is ensured by virtue of the fact that the element is composed at least partially of a meltable or softenable substance, for example a metal alloy or a wax which melts or softens sufficiently at the predetermined temperature, so that the element is ejected from the cavity. <IMAGE>
