PURPOSE:To obtain ethanol, acetaldehyde, and acetic acid respectively selectively in high yield, by reacting methanol with CO and H2 using a catalyst comprising rhenium (compound), bromine (compound), and iodine (compound). CONSTITUTION:By using a catalyst comprising metal rhenium, a rhenium compound (e.g., rhenium oxide, rhenic acid, etc.), bromine, iodine, bromine compound, and iodine compound, and, if necessary, the third compound (e.g., trimethylamine, triphenyl phosphite, etc.) of an element of the Va group of periodic table as a cocatalyst, methanol is reacted with carbon monoxide and hydrogen to give ethanol, acetaldehyde, and acetic acid. The variation of the components and the ratio of components of the catalyst, the amount of each of the raw materials, and the reaction conditions provide selectively the desired reaction products in high yield. The reaction products can be taken out by distillation, etc. and the catalyst can be used in circulated way.
|
