PURPOSE:To achieve optical density changing in a practicable use area with low applied voltage by using a thin film of halide as an electrolyte layer in place of a dielectric layer in an all solid state complementary type electrochromic EC display element. CONSTITUTION:A transparent conductive film is formed as the 1st electrode layer 2 on a transparent substrate 1. Thence, the 1st EC material layer 3 of reduction coloring type represented by tungsten trioxide is formed, after which halide such as lithium iodide is formed as a thin film electrolyte layer 4. Thence, the 2nd EC material layer 5 of oxidation coloring type represented by iridium oxide is formed, after which the 2nd electrode layer 6 is formed in the final. |
