The object is, ahead of the cooling bed in light and medium section mill trains, to cut both large round and square section bars moving at a relatively low rolling speed and U, L and T sections moving at low to high rolling speeds with a quality of cut equal to that provided by a parallel blade cut and also to cut small round, square section and flat bars, which do not require a parallel blade cut, at even higher rolling speeds, and to do this with one blade per strand. This is achieved by virtue of the fact that, with a shear which starts from the stationary condition and has crankshafts mounted in eccentric drums and a swinging linkage to keep the blades in the blade carriers parallel during cutting, the cranks of the crankshafts drivable in the eccentric drums via chain drive elements are connected to cranks of equal length, rotating in the same direction and at the same speed and bearing connecting rods, of crankshafts supported in the shear housing and engageable by means of clutches, the connection being effected by means of divisible blade carriers which are supported on the connecting rods and are seated rotatably with their blade-carrying blade heads on the first-mentioned cranks. <IMAGE> |
