Root crop cooker, in particular for cooking beetroots, with a cooking chamber (11) which has at the bottom a water bath (19) with heating means for steam production. Two circumferential support belts (14, 16), one (14) above the other (16), are arranged in the cooking chamber (11) and movable independently of one another. On the upper support belt (14), root crops to be cooked are arranged in a layer (29), through which steam is pressed. A part of this steam condenses on the root crops which are thus heated to a given temperature. After a given time, the root crops are transferred over onto the second support belt (16), on which they are arranged in a considerably thicker layer (30) than on the first support belt. The root crops on the second support belt (16) are finish-cooked without steam being supplied and moreover, as a result of their position under the first support belt (14), serve as a filter layer which collects impurities in the condensate which drips down from the first layer (29). The cooker consumes a very small quantity of water and furthermore requires extremely little energy. The cooked root crops also have considerably better quality. <IMAGE> |
