Di-Ph pentaerythrytol diphosphite or dialkyl pentaerythrytol diphosphite (II; A = Ph, C1-4 alkyl) was reacted with alkylphenol (III; R= C1-10 alkyl; n = 1-3) to give mixed aromatic-aliphatic phosphites which were useful as stabilizer for plastics such as polypropylene. Thus, 267 g Di-Ph pentaerythrytol, 371 g 2,4-di-tert-butylphenol, and 8.5 g MeONa were heated to 190≦̸C/5mm with distn. of phenol and freed of volatiles at 210≦̸C/5mm to prep. bis (2, 4-di-tert-butylphenyl) pentaerythrytol diphosphite (m.p. 135-150≦̸C).
